9.14.20 Update

We had an annual check-up in August. Everything looks good. His lid is not drooping more than in the past, and his vision is not impaired. The only issue is that my som, now 12 years old, feels that it takes a lot of work for him to open his eye wide enough to feel comfortable. I thought that maybe he was just being more self-conscious about his appearance given he is almost a teenager, but the doctor felt that his field of vision, although not technically impairing, may be smaller than ideal; thus he feels ‘closed off’. There may be good reason to lift the lid again to open his field of vision. We are going to schedule a virtual appointment with his surgeon (since we live out of state from his doctor) to discuss this further. I will keep you posted.

Frontalis Sling 9/17/18

I often get emails inquiring about my son's appearance post-surgery. I'm posting this photo today because it is a good representation how his eyebrow muscle lifts his eyelid (see his left eye).  So, I thought this photo might be helpful for those who are contemplating or facing frontalis sling surgery. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Update 8.17.18

Just an update on this little man....all is well. His lid is not dropping more than it has in the past. His vision seems good. He is able to intentionally raise his eyelid to a more symmetrical position with his other eye if desired (for a photo, for example). His eyelids are not symmetrical regularly, but this doesn’t effect him in any way. He is occasionally asked “what’s wrong with your eye” or told “ you look really sleepy”, but these types of questions and comments don’t phase us anymore. We’ll visit his eye specialist next summer, but until then....all is well.

Update 12/30/17

Things are still going great for this little guy. We've had no eye issues and aren't noticing any change in the level of his eyelid. He has definitely been growing so hopefully the natural muscle tissue in his brow is growing right along with him. I'll continue to keep you posted. One more thing. I recently came across a Facebook page called "Children With Ptosis" that may be a good resource for some of you.

This handsome guy just had a perfect annual check-up with his eye specialist. His lid is functioning well, and his vision is perfect. Fingers crossed, the frontalis sling with his own faschia will continue to grow with him. For now, we are good! Woohoo!

New Photos 7.18.17

Our boy just turned 9 years old! Here are some photos so you can see the variations of his eye on different days/situations. We have a check up with his specialist next month so I'll post an update following that appointment.

I'm going to attach a few photos to show the different ways my son's eye can look (his left eye). In some of the photos you may notice that his eyebrow is lifted thereby lifting his eyelid so that his eye is open.

Went for a check-up today. Vision is perfect. Eyelid is holding perfectly at the same level it was 2 years ago, and functions exactly as it should. All good news!

2nd grad class photo. This is a good example of how his eye looks when he forgets to open it up for a picture.
